If there is any place where travellers can save some money during their travels through Asia it's in Thailand. Bangkok especially. It's known for being easy on the budget traveller's pocket book, everyting from hotel accommodations, eating out, sightseeing and shopping.

Transporation

When it comes to arrving in Thailand, it's best to avoid peak time. You will find the best of the cheap flights to Bangkok between April and October. While those are the hottest and rainiest of the year, you can save sometimes 35% off the airfare. Well worth it for some.

Getting around the city is easy as well. The city has a highly efficient train system that runs both above ground and below. Sometimes though the easiest and fastest ways to get around from point A to B are by taxi or river ferry boats, especially if you're in a historical district. Go in a group, it'll be even cheaper.

Accommodation

While hotels are cheap in Bangkok, they will make up the bulk of your travel costs while visiting Thailand. Especially if you plan to stay awhile. The best-priced ones are found in central Bangkok, Silom and Sukhumvit in particular. If you plan to use the trains a lot, find accommodations nearby a station for easy access.

Eats and Sights

This city is full of cheap eats, you just have to know where to find them. The locals obviously know best and you can find super budget menus during lunchtime in cafeteria-style diners. A bowl of chicken and rice costs little more than a couple of quid. If you're really adventurous then wanter into the streets and eat your dinner from the variety of food carts, this is where you'll really save.

As for sightseeing, avoid organised tour buses and guides. Pick up a map from the information centre and hit up the sights on your own. There are usually discounted days or even free days/times so make sure you take advantage of these while you're visitng.
