Your guide to the Edinburgh Fringe

Published on by Izabella

It's that time of the year again: Fringe time. Edinburgh is bursting with the world's top street performers as this year's Fringe Festival is ready to kick-off. Edinburgh celebrates the festival's 66th year and if you ask any expert, they'd say that this is the time to visit the Scottish capital. Thousands of performers take the stage on Edinburgh's Royal Mile, a popular street running through the city centre. Performers take to the streets to give their audience a taste of what is to come for their show and try to lure more in to see it.

The festival spans three weeks so there is plenty of time to catch a ton of shows and see the city's sights as well. If it's your first time visiting Edinburgh during the festival, get ready for the experience of a lifetime!

Getting around Edinburgh

Luckily for festival goers, the city is quite compact which is great if you’ve saved a penny or two by choosing a hotel that is out of the city centre. It’s easy enough to get around on foot. It’s a good idea to always have a festival guide on you, the maps will definitely come in handy to help you navigate through the crowds as you hop from venue to venue.

Tips for getting the most out of the Fringe

  • Take a chance and see a show you wouldn’t normally go for. That’s the beauty of the festival, discovering new forms of theatre.
  • Always see what’s on offer at the Half Price Hut if you don’t have any plans for the day. Same-day tickets are half-off, a bargain!
  • With endless shows for free, there are no excuses for not seeing at least something while you’re in Edinburgh and you’ve got a tight budget.
  • Scottish weather is highly unpredictable, even in summer. Dress in layers and bring the appropriate gear for rain and sun.
  • Don’t try to see it all. Pace yourself and don’t forget to enjoy the pace of the city and the Scottish sights, not just the insides of the theatres and venues.

Off to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer? Enjoy!
