Space holidays: introducing first space hotel

Published on by Izabella

The Russians are really all over the whole "holidays in space" idea as they've already started to design and produce the universe's first space hotel, to be ready for its first guests in 2016. The space hotel will be officially called the Commercial Space Station and will no-doubt cater to the world's richest and space-crazed tourists and explorers plus industry researchers.

A Russian company called Orbital Technologies will have the first space hotel ready to welcome its first guests in only five year's time and is planned to be located 250 miles above the surface of the Earth. Can you imagine the views guests will have outside their hotel windows? The hotel will be able to accommodate a maximum of seven guests at any given time.

Guests will have to undergo a three month training session before they'll be allowed to stay here though. Training will largely depend on which type of spacecraft they'll use to arrive at the hotel. Guests will have the choice of staying at the hotel for any period of time from three days up to a period of six months.

Hotel Amenities

So what can you expect during your stay at the Commercial Space Station? While a holiday in space may be the most exciting thing you'll ever do according to others, once you're there you'll find there isn't too much to actually do. Each hotel room pod is outfitted with television and web access. As for catering, each guest will choose their menu before the trip and their food will be delivered dehydrated. There is no spa at this hotel, although they do provide east guests with wet wipes because of course there are no showers in space.

So what is there to do? Well, why not take a day trip to the moon and back? The hotel administrator hopes that in the future circumlunar flights will also be made available and the hotel is the perfect place to base yourself if you plan on going for a moon-hopping trip while you're in space.

For now, there is no information about the cost of staying at the hotel but you can bet it'll cost more than the premiere luxury suites at the Four Seasons or Marriott.

Would you spend your holidays in space if given the chance?
