Are you a shopaholic who loves to travel? Head to Leeds!

When you think about shopping in Europe what are the first cities that come to mind? Paris, Milan, Barcelona? When it comes to the UK at least, one hardly thinks past London. Truth be told, there is plenty of shopping hedonism to be found away from the capital, and a trip that won't cost an arm and a leg in hotels and flights. harvey nichols leeds

Leeds, the proverbial "Knightsbridge" of the north offers everything and more for those who yearn for a shopping getaway without the price tag of London.

Leeds is also super easy to reach from just about anywhere in Western Europe without having to transfer through London (which is more than just a headache). If you want to book an air ticket Marseille - Leeds, and find a good deal, start your search at least one month in advance. Check out the low cost airlines too and avoid check-in luggage for the best fares. Of course, with all that shopping, it's possible you'll need to check a bag (or two) on the way home!

What is the attraction?

Quaint pedestrian streets lined with shops selling just about everything from designer goods, boutique jewellery to handmade threads. Throw a selection of trendy cafés and bistros in the mix and there is no better place than Leeds to spend a day paying with plastic. Leeds is also known for its historic Victorian Quarter in the city centre that is home to a number of restored arcades, small streets and romantic architecture.

The question still remains though, where to shop in Leeds?

Kirkgate Market

Once home to Marks (who later joined up with Spencer), this marketplace is your bet for finding delicious and fresh eats along with other goodies for cheap. Kirkgate Market is a great place to start in the morning when the place is buzzing with merchants and shoppers. It opens at 9:00 and is located at 34 George Street.

Corn Exchange

Originally built in 1865 this is one historic place for shopping. It was once used to house grains sold and traded in the area and today features beautifully restored wrought iron. It's the best place in Leeds to find unique and one-of-a-kind clothing, jewellery and vinyl records. In the city centre, look for Vicar Lane, you can't miss it.

County Arcade

This is just one of a few Victorian-era Arcades in the region that has been restored to its original brilliance. With a stained glass roof, marble mosaic floors and great lighting, this is one place you shouldn't miss on any shopping outing in Leeds. Even if just for the structure itself, it's simply beautiful.

Harvey Nichols

For the upscale shopper, Harvey Nichols might be just the thing you're looking for.

At 107 Briggate, you'll find the usual glam and style that Harvey Nichols is known for. This location was the first to be opened outside of London and can be found in Leeds' historical Victorian Quarter.
