Hit the American road this summer

Published on by Izabella

Are you planning an American holiday this summer? If so, then you'd better check these places out. We're here to bring you our top picks for American destinations, just in time for the summer planning. Whether you're looking for some awe-inspiring destinations, classic American city-life, a beach break or incredible landscapes that you can't find anywhere else... America has them all. So let's jump right in and take a look at the top 5 spots to visit this year in the USA (in no particular order).

1. Boulder, Colorado

Boulder is an American university town but what makes it great is that it's been voted one of the most livable cities in the USA. It's a great place if you love spending time outdoors. Cyclists shouldn't miss the path that follows Boulder Creek (also a great place to swim in summer). For hikers, the Royal Arch Trail will challenge.

2. California Gold Country

Think century-old homes, old country feelings and classic, historical America and you've pinned down California's Gold Country, just a stone's throw from San Francisco. Nearby are a ton of quirky attractions like Volcano, a small gold mining town with no volcano on top of some great wineries.

3. Chicago

Chicago is an especially busy place this year, hosting both the G8 and NATO summits. First stop on the list in this great American city is the Magnificent Mile. There sure is some pretty incredible art in this city so don't miss the Chicago Art Institute. For a sunny summer stroll, check out Hyde Park or just head down to the lakeside.

4. Big Island in Hawaii

For a more exotic getaway, Hawaii is always a gem. There's more to this place though than Honolulu. Instead, book your flights to Kona on the Big Island where you can visit Volcanoes National Park, hike the caves and snorkel to your heart's content. The best beach on the island? Definitely Hapuna.

5. Yellowstone National Park

Did you know that Yellowstone was the first national park in the entire world? It is 139 years old! More than 4 million people visit the park every year. If you ask us, the best time to go is in winter, spring and autumn because summers are just too busy. The park entry rates are a lot lower during off-season as well. Besides, the geysers shoot highest in winter... what a sight to see!
