Head to London for the Jubilee

Published on by Izabella

We all know that the Olympics are going to be in London this summer, that's pretty obvious. But did you know that Britain will celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee this summer too? HRH has reigned in England for a whopping sixty years.

While the actual date of her Jubilee has passed, the celebrations are holding out till summer, June 2nd to 5th to be exact. It will be a weekend not to be missed on the summer calendar! Events planned for the weekend include a 1000-boat water pageant on the Thames (set for the 3rd of June). The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will travel in the middle of the flotilla… aboard the Royal Barge. Bring your flags and come early to find a spot along the riverbank. There will be a BBC Concert on the front steps of Buckingham Palace on the 4th of June. Tickets are available to UK residents by public ballot and the concert will feature musicians from across the UK as well as from Commonwealth countries.

Last but not least, there will also be a special service held at St. Paul's Cathedral, followed by a carriage procession (yes, another chance to spot the Queen) on the 5th of June, wrapping up the Jubilee Central Weekend.

If you're planning to visit London during the Jubilee weekend, be prepared for crowds, closed roads and a lot of trafffic. It's best to book your hotel room as far in advance as possible and plan to get to events very early if you hope to get a spot near the front of the crowds. As well, when travelling within London, check regularly for transit closures.

Will you be heading to London to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee?
