America's best cities... or are they?
It's a hard job to classify anything as "the best." It's all a bit subjective, don't you think? Of cours, there is no shortage of "the best" posts on travel blogs. We even have a few on this one but we hope you take them rather as suggestions because we all know there's more to a place than their so-called blockbuster attraction. The USA, being so big, vaste, varied, diverse, is a hard country to pin down. There's literally something for everyone (understatement of the year). But we want to you what your favourite American cities are. We've rounded up a few of ours but are they the BEST? That's up to you!
If you ask us, these would be our picks for the 5 best American cities to visit.
New York
As probably the most popular American city to visit, there are a lot of reasons to love this city, home to 9% of the American population. Cultures come together in the Big Apple and you can find absolutely everything in this city. Iconic sights like the Statue of Liberty, Coney Island, Empire State Building and Central Park shouldn't be overlooked.
San Franciso
How can anyone NOT love San Francisco? This city has the power to woo anyone. The Golden Gate Bridge, itself a feat that it was built to Alcatraz, a legendary jail that housed the baddest of the bad. The city itself is charming and each neighborhood has something a little different to offer. It's the hub for alternative cultures in the USA.
Seattle
Representing the north-west of the USA, Seattle comes in our top five for a few reasons. It's nickname, The Emerald City is one of them. This city is SO green, with evergreens everywhere. With views of the lovely Cascade mountains in the distance, it's also very picturesque. Today it's not the hippie central it used to be but a hub for some of the country's largest companies including Microsoft and Amazon.com.
Chicago
Classic choice here, Chicago has a lot going for it. It is the home of Blues, a genre of music that changed the world (can we say that?) and has always been a hub for the greatests jazz voices of all time. It was where the idea for a skyscraper came from. It's a hugely metropolitan city that hasn't lost touch with the fine details: fine, as in fine theatre, fine dining, fine shopping and all the rest.
Savannah
Savannah is the wild card here because the US, especially in the south, has some serious cities with a lot of character. Savannah, Georgia is one of them. Settled by British colonists, this city's early architecture is strickingly still preserved, making it one of the most historic centres in the country.
Do you agree? Which other cities would you add or take away?
