No more check-in desks at Ryanair

Ryanair removing all its airport check-in desks

The fee of checking in baggages is also getting higher - from now on, travellers can only check in if they do it at home via internet at the cost of £5, and if they don't, the price of an emergency check-in at the airport is £40.

A spokesman for Ryanair said that these changes would help travellers avoid time wasting queues and delays at airport check-in desks. Michael O'Leary, Ryanair's chief executive commented that the measures were to save the airline about £46 million a year (!!!).

As for the £40 charge imposed on those who forget to check in online, a Ryanair spokesman said: "Hopefully they will only forget once. The high fee is designed to encourage people to remember, and not to be hit again. Technically the fee is to cover reissuing the ticket."

Ryanair also announced that from October 1 children under 16 will no longer be allowed to travel unaccompanied, and passports will be the only accepted form of photo identification

The airline carried 58.5 million passengers last year and made £545 million from add-on fees including baggage check-in and credit card booking costs. The company is also increasing luggage check-in charges, with the cost of checking in a bag from £20 to £30, while a second bag will cost £40 to £70.

So, if you are about to travel with a Ryanair flight, be sure to check in before going to the airport.
